Unlocked cars have become the target of choice for summer scoundrels in the Niles area. Some 50 cars and trucks were broken into sometime this week on the South side of Niles. A couple of cars did have windows smashed in....but the vast majority were simply unlocked. Sometimes nothing was stolen, sometimes loose change and cigarettes, in a couple cases an I-pod or other MP-3 player. Because of the types of things taken, police say it looks like the work of kids or teenagers. Once again, a familiar refrain from law enforcement.....lock your car and don't leave anything of value in it. And maybe leave a light on outside at night.
