Stats show that summertime and tough times tend to crank up the crime rate. That's being proven true in Cass County this summer. The Sheriff's office reports they've had an unusually high number of breakins and burglaries in the southwestern part of the county....including Milton, Howard, Jefferson, Ontwa and Pokagon Townships, since the beginning of July. Thieves appear to be targeting houses that are empty during the day and are looking for windows and sliding doors that are left open or easily accessable. And they're stealing whatever they can get away with.
