The Democrat running for Michigan's sixth congressional district, Don Cooney, was in Benton Harbor Tuesday night to host a forum on the 45th anniversary of the passing of the Medicare legislation. Attendees watched a PBS documentary on universal healthcare in other nations. Then Cooney joined fellow Democrat and State Senate candidate Scott Elliott for a discussion on Medicare and the current state of healthcare with the audience. Cooney says the country could save around 400 billion dollars if it went to a universal healthcare system. He says more people would be able to pay for other bills, like home payments.
