The Berrien County Sheriffs Department is buying new firearms for its deputies. The Herald Palladium reports that the county commission recently approved the purchase of 110 pistols for a total of around 74-thousand dollars. The new Springfield Armory XDM .40-caliber semi-automatics will be replacing the deputies' old nine millimeters, which will be sold to current deputies who want them. They'll then be sold to retired deputies and other local law enforcement agencies. The sheriffs department hopes that those sales can help recover most of the price of the new guns.
