Southfield Organization Eyes Benton Harbor Casino
Christine Aranyos Reporting
Benton Harbor Mayor Wilce Cooke wants to bring a casino to the local community. Cooke is the committee co-chair of Michigan is Yours. The organization wants to amend the state constitution to allow casinos in all cities. The South Bend Tribune reports a draft petition recently made its way through the Michigan Board of State Canvassers. Now, the group must collect 380,000 signatures by July 5 to get the petition on the November 2 ballot. Detroit, Flint, Lansing, Muskegon and Romulus are also possible new casino locations. There are 22 casinos in Michigan, and if Benton Harbor gets its own.... the city will join two other area casinos, Michigan City's Blue Chip Casino and New Buffalo's Four Winds Casino.
