GM Gives Dealers Another Chance



A spokesman for General Motors says they don’t plan to wait to go to arbitration and will reinstate the franchises of about 400 dealers right away. The dealers are among those that entered congressionally-mandated arbitration. GM Spokesman Dave Roman says 600 of the more than 13-hundred dealers marked for shutdown will have their franchises restored.

GM wanted to terminate the franchise agreements as an element of its government-supported bankruptcy last year. The U.S. Treasury became owner of 60 percent of GM in the bankruptcy case. The sources say GM will send letters telling the dealers they will remain with the automaker.
